Red diesel ban consultation

The government is set to withdraw concessions that allow plant to use highways while running on red diesel.
Under the terms of the proposal, mobile cranes, aerial platforms, road construction vehicles, snow clearing/gritting machines, work trucks, mowing machines and agricultural tractors will have to use white diesel (with its additional 41p/litre fuel duty) and/or face speed/distance restrictions for on-road movements.
Plant working almost exclusively off the road will be allowed to run on red diesel, as will road construction machines that are usually transported on a low loader.
Copies of the document can be obtained on CJ's website at www.contractjournal.com under the Legal/Latest Develop-ment heading.
Responses have to be in by 2 March.
