HSE investigates O’Rourke 38-storey formwork fall

The Health & Safety Executive (HSE) has launched an investigation after formwork fell 130m off the Beetham Tower being built by Laing O’Rourke in Birmingham city centre last Thursday. No one was injured in the incident.

One un-named worker is reported to have said: “This is not the first time something has fallen from the tower. It was only a matter of time before this happened.”

Work was stopped so an investigation could be carried out, but restarted on Friday morning.

A Laing O’Rourke spokesman said: “The area at level 38 where the incident took place has been isolated. The remainder of the site continues safely in operation.”
