Story has picManitowoc Crane Group dealer Coast Crane is supplying a fleet of ten machines to an ExxonMobil project on the Russian island of Sakhalin.
The order consists of Manitowoc model 999 crawler cranes and Grove rough-terrain units. The fleet is being dispatched by ship from Seattle, via South Korea, and then on to Sakhalin, a trip of some 9,656 miles.
Alaska-based Veco Equipment will use the cranes for field support operations on its oil exploration project. It has been estimated that the island’s oil reserves could contain 8bn barrels of oil, making it one of the largest finds of the last 20 years.
