Bovis insists on CSCS cards for everyone

All operatives working on Bovis Lend Lease sites must hold a current CSCS card or equivalent skills card that is recognised by the Major Contractors Group (MCG).

Bovis instituted this measure on 1 March. It applies to all crafts and trades. Personnel are required to provide details of their skills card on their security pass application form and present the card at their site induction.

"We want to keep driving up the standards in our industry," said Jason Millett, managing director of Bovis Lend Lease in the UK. "If other contractors follow our lead, together we can make the CSCS card a passport to better training, higher quality and greater safety.

"By insisting that people working on our projects do carry a CSCS card, we want to send out a clear message to the whole industry that our people need to be qualified, for their own career, for their own safety, and for the safety of their colleagues too."

If a trade or a skill is not recognised by the MCG, a letter of exemption must be obtained from CSCS and the operative must have attended and passed the CITB safety test.
