Second Northern Ireland DBFO roads package worth up to £250m advertised

The Department for Regional Development in Northern Ireland is inviting contractors to bid for its second design, build, finance and operate road package, which is worth between £200m and £250m.

The latest package includes:

  • upgrading the A1 between Beechill and Cloghogue to dual carriageway;
  • provision of grade separated junctions and improvements to at-grade junctions on the A1;
  • provision of a centre median road restraint system on parts of the A1;
  • provision of local improvements to the M1 motorway in the Lisburn area;
  • upgrading the A4 between Dungannon and Ballygawley to dual carriageway;
  • road realignment of the A4 at Annaghilla and the A5 at Tullyvar.

Approximately 125km of road will be included in the maintenance contract. Firms have until 4 May to register their interest in the scheme.

DBFO road package two follows the £90m to £110m initial contract, which covers improvements to the M1/Westlink and various works on the M2. Four groups are currently pricing the deal.
