Muncey mulls over future after quitting Gleeson

Andrew Muncey, who quit as managing director of Gleeson earlier this week, is heading off for an Easter break in France to consider all options regarding his future.

The pre-arranged break will take Muncey to the Pyrenees.

“I’ve been considering my future for the past two months,” Muncey told CJ. “Without a building division, Gleeson will have a different shape, becoming more of a housing and regeneration player and Terry Massingham has more experience of that.”

Massingham, who has succeeded Muncey as the Gleeson group md, is the former managing director of the homes division.

Muncey said that the parting had been amicable. “There is no animosity,” he revealed. “I enjoyed my time at Gleeson as it has been fantastic.

“I’m now considering anything. It may not be with a building or construction group, possibly with a client instead. I want to consider all my options. There is a certain attraction to starting up on my own or buying into a company - I have experience of running a group as an md and it would be good to put that to use.”

The calls have already been coming from head hunters but the initial approaches have been turned down. “I could happily survive six months. There’s no hurry,” said Muncey.

Asked why he hadn’t led the management buy-out, Muncey said: “It was just the timing of things. It was being considered some time ago.”
