Construction fatalities reach 70

A 35-year-old man has become the 70th fatality in the construction industry.

The man, who has not been named, was killed on 23 March at a Ministry of Defence site in Anesbury, when he was hit by a fork lift truck.

No further details have been given by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE). With just two days remaining until the start of April there have now been exactly the same number of deaths in construction as there were in 2003-2004.

On 26 March, a three-year-old boy suffered serious injuries when he fell 9m from scaffolding on a Caxton site in Islington. The police and HSE have launched a joint investigation.
