Wilson Bowden has welcolmed a ruling by the Court of Session that will allow the regeneration of Ravenscraig to go ahead.
The Court of Session rejected the appeal by Standard Life and Land Securities to overturn the Scottish Executive’s decision to approve an amendment to the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Joint Structure Plan giving town centre status to part of the former Ravenscraig steelworks site.
This decision removes a significant obstacle to the planned redevelopment of Ravenscraig.
Wilson Bowden has been working closely with joint venture partners Corus and Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire to develop detailed plans for the area. Preparatory works for the first phase of housing is expected to commence later this year.
Ian Robertson, chief executive of Wilson Bowden, said: "We warmly welcome the decision by Court of Session. I am very pleased that the Scottish Executive’s decision has been upheld and we can rapidly progress our proposals for the regeneration of Ravenscraig.
"The structure plan amendment is important because it confers town centre status on Ravenscraig. This forms an integral component of the sustainable redevelopment of the area.
“Ravenscraig will ultimately include more than 3,500 new homes, 93,000m2.of retail and leisure facilities in a new town centre, and 186,000m2 of industrial and business space. Our plans will deliver £1bn of investment in an area which needs this scale of all-encompassing development to rejuvenate the local economy."
