Three share Liverpool regen

Three firms have been named framework contractors for £60m of regeneration work in Liverpool, with a £30m contract for landscaping yet to be awarded.

Alfred McAlpine Capital Projects, Birse Civils and Mowlem  were chosen from a shortlist of eight to undertake highway, remediation, infrastructure and environmental work.

Other contractors believed to have made the shortlist from more than 40 expressions of interest were Balfour Beatty, Cheetham Hill Construction, Eric Wright and Norwest Holst.

Liverpool Land Development Company (LLDC) last week named the firms as framework contractors to work on projects, which include developing the Edge Lane route into the city and two new business parks. The company has plans for Stone-bridge Park and around 25,000m2 of space on the former MTL site on Edge Lane.

LLDC project director Graham Pink said most of the works will start by the end of this year or mid-2006. He added that the company plans to award landscaping contracts in the near future.

Liverpool City Council is considering proposals for the former Littlewoods Pools headquarters adjacent to the ex-MTL site.
