Penny Hydraulics is the latest company to offer a mechanised
kerb-lifting device in the form of Swing Lift derivative the Kerb
Lift. The 250kg lifting capacity unit is designed to fit vans,
flatbeds, dropsides and tippers.
The firm says a typical kerbstone weighs 67kg (heavier than two
people are allowed to lift from shin level, as specified by the
manual handling regulations) and is manually handled at least three
times from arrival on site, to its final position.
The electrically powered Kerb Lift has a 2m boom with dual pivot
points, allowing the operator to lay up to 4m of kerbing without
moving the vehicle. Kerb stones are held using a scissor grab and a
small vacuum lift handles slabs.
No welding or chassis modifications are required to fit the unit
and it is said to be easily removed to maximise loadspace.
The unit can also lift equipment such as compactors, compressors
and tools and is controlled via a push-button wander lead.
