Renault Quickshift6 for Trafic and Master vans
Renault has introduced an automated manual transmission for Trafic
and Master vans fitted with the 2.5-litre dCi engine. Quick-shift6
uses the standard six-speed gearbox, but without a clutch pedal; a
computer-controlled system works the clutch and gears.
The gearbox can be used as an automatic or manual, with the driver
pushing a servo lever forwards for upchanges and back for
downshifts. Changing up can be done without lifting off the
throttle and on downshifts the computer raises the engine revs to
match the gearbox.
Two additional modes are available. The 'kg' mode is designed for
working with a load; holding the gears longer allows for
acceleration at full payload. Snow mode is for slippery conditions,
putting the transmission into automatic and limiting wheelspin.
Renault said the system can reduce fuel consumption by up to 8% on
Master vans and up to 10% for Trafic drivers.
