Mastic Asphalt Council denies SMA association

The Mastic Asphalt Council (MAC) has distanced itself from problems associated with stoned mastic asphalt (SMA) after a BBC Radio 4 programme pointed out the dangers of using the material on road surfaces.
Director John Blowers told CJ that customers called MAC members after File On 4 described fatal road accidents where SMA was used. The programme also said Ireland's national road authority has imposed a 30mph limit on SMA roads.
Blowers said: "We don't provide much mastic asphalt for roads, but it's used on bridge decks to reduce weight. We want to defend our market for bridges."
