EDF to turn on the lights in Ealing
EDF Energy has plugged into its second PFI streetlighting deal. Its
latest success is on the London Borough of Ealing's £25m deal,
where the firm has emerged as preferred bidder.
The project involves renewing and replacing about 20,000 lamposts
across the borough; at present Ealing's streelighting is regarded
as among the worst in London.
The five-year upgrading programme will be followed by a 20-year
maintenance period. Financial close is expected by the end of June,
with work on site starting soon afterwards.
EDF will be responsible for management, design, installation and
ongoing repair and maintenance of the entire stock.
EDF's first PFI streetlighting contract was signed with the London
Borough of Islington two years ago.
It is estimated that, over the next five years, 750,000
streetlighting columns will be renewed in England via the PFI
route.
