A Scottish construction firm has been fined £34,000 after a worker was killed on a construction site three years ago.
Riverside Construction (Aberdeen) admitted breaching the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 following the death in January 2002 of an employee of another company who was crushed when an unsafe building collapsed on him in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that the man's death was avoidable as the company had failed to check the building's structural integrity, and the systems of work adopted.
It was also revealed that it was three days before the deceased worker, who had been salvaging fittings from the burnt out former retail premises in Union Street, was recovered.
