Mann Construction, the civils and groundwork contractor,
anticipates a jump in turnover to £40m in the current year,
well up on the previous figure of £25m.
Marketing director Gary Dann said: "We have set out to achieve a
£40m-a-year turnover and we should go past that this
year."
Based in Enfield, Mann operates in a territory between Swindon and
Ipswich, and between Peterborough and Portsmouth.
"We typically operate as a subcontractor," said Dann, "but we are
now trying out as principal contractor on one or two schemes with
small developers. We did move in this direction two years ago but
eased back after clients went with the cheapest bid. We found that
frustrating."
Repeat business accounts for 85% of turnover. That figure could
have been higher but Mann attracted several new clients, including
Alfred McAlpine, Bowmer & Kirkland, Carillion, Interserve,
Furlong Homes, Leadbitter and McLaren.
Latest published results (12 months to 30 June 2004) show turnover
unchanged at £25m, while pre-tax profit climbed to
£680,000 (£400,000 in 2003).
"We offer a new soil remedial service," Dann said. "And with new EU
legislation on landfill coming this way on 16 July, part of a push
to reduce the volume of hazadous waste coming off construction
jobs, we've already employed a full-time chemist."
