Poor roads hold workers up

Poor transport infrastructure is causing construction staff to be late for work in nearly half (46%) of small construction firms.

According to a survey carried out by Bibby Financial Services, 29% of construction bosses said they lose valuable production time because of traffic congestion and public transport delays, and 11% blamed this for their staff being late every day of the week.

Nearly a quarter (22%) of business owners said their staff have missed important business meetings due to delays.

In total, small construction businesses believe poor transport infrastructure costs them £181m a year in lost productivity and profits.
