Mowlem wins £11m infrastructure deal

Mowlem Infrastructure has been awarded an £11m contract to undertake carriageway widening on the A206 Thames Road in Crayford, Kent by client Bexley Council.

The contract is due to commence at the end of May and will involve widening approximately 2km of the road – the only remaining single carriageway section and the well-known ‘bottleneck’ of the route linking Woolwich, Thamesmead and Erith to the M25 and North Kent.

The Crayford Mill Railway Bridge which crosses the road will also be replaced.

As well as the benefits of increased public safety in the area, reduced journey times and increased efficiency of the bus services, the scheme is designed to have minimal impact on local residents and the environment, using soft and hard landscaping where practical to compensate for the loss of existing vegetation and other features.

The scheme, due for completion in summer 2007, is being funded jointly by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Transport for London.
