Nuttall's Scottish division wins work worth £17m

Nuttall’s Scottish division has secured over £17m of new orders at locations as far flung as Dounreay and Glencoe.

The largest project is the £10.2m Finnieston Bridge over the River Clyde in Glasgow, the first new traffic link over the river for more than 30 years. The 140m long, three span deck structure will be supported by cables suspended from a single tied bowstring arch which will run diagonally across the deck.

Work on the crossing will start this summer with the erection of the main arch starting early in 2006.

The company has also won two major bridge projects on Scotland’s trunk roads working for the Scottish Executive through its network management and maintenance contractors Amey Infrastructure Services and BEAR Scotland.

The Amey contract is a £1.8m refurbishment of Bluther Burn Bridge in Fife. This complex project has involved the erection of a single lane temporary bridge over the existing structure using the Mabey Universal bridging system.

The work with BEAR Scotland is the A82 Lairig Eilde Bridge replacement at the southern gateway to Glencoe. The £3.7m scheme includes a new curved concrete slab bridge with a gull wing profile and a new cantilevered section of road.

The final project win is the Low Active Drain Diversion at Dounreay for UKAEA. This enabling works package is an important element of the Dounreay Site Restoration Plan and involves re-routing 125m of redundant low active drain and will include the excavation and safe disposal of radioactively and chemically contaminated structures and soils within prefabricated radiological containment units. The project is being delivered in joint venture with Ritchies.
