Developer fined £7k after worker left paralysed

Derbyshire-based developer Kieran Mullin Developments has today (Friday) been fined £7,000 after a worker fell from scaffolding and was paralysed.

John Maphin, 44, from Derby suffered spinal injuries when he fell from a building in Littleover last September.

The company admitted a charge of having failed to take steps to prevent any employees falling from the scaffold.

The firm also admitted failing to have the scaffolding inspected by a competent person.

The company, which is based in Babington Lane in Derby, was fined £7,000 and ordered to pay almost £1,800 in costs at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court.
