creating markets for recycled resources

Invitation to Tender
Aggregates Research Programme

WRAP (the Waste and Resources Action Programme) is a major Government
programme established to accelerate resource efficiency by creating
stable and efficient markets for recycled materials and products and
removing barriers to waste minimisation, re-use and recycling.
 From April 2002 to March 2005 the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund
(ALSF) promoted research against the objective of 'reducing the
demand for primary aggregates through the greater use of recycled and
secondary aggregates'. This was distributed through the DTI/WRAP
Aggregates Research Programme (ARP). The output of these research

projects have informed the WRAP Aggregates Programme, strengthened
WRAP's sustainable aggregates information service AggRegain and
facilitated the greater use of recycled and secondary aggregates.
A thorough review of the completed projects, and extensive
consultation with Stakeholders, has identified further topics for
research in the period to 2007. The projects will be of between nine
and 21 months in duration.
WRAP is pleased to announce this invitation for tenders against the
following research topics:
AGG0079-001: Increasing the use of foamed concrete incorporating
recycled and secondary aggregates;
AGG0079-002: Investigating the effects of recycled and secondary
aggregates on the engineering properties of concrete;
AGG0079-003: Testing of concrete produced with recycled and secondary
aggregates to determine the effect on ground water and the
environment;
AGG0079-004: The development of new performance test methods for HBM mixtures;
AGG0079-005: The development of durability tests for HBM mixtures;
AGG0079-006: Good practice guidance on the use of HBM in working
platforms and other new applications;
AGG0079-007: The promotion of the benefits of recycled and secondary
aggregates (RSA) use in the reduction of C02 emissions;
AGG0079-008: The promotion of the benefits of recycled and secondary
aggregates (RSA) to the SME sector of the construction industry;
AGG0079-009: An assessment of the potential of redundant airfields in
