Nationwide switches to biodegradable oil

Nationwide Plant Hire has switched its entire fleet of excavators, backhoe loaders and dumpers to running on biodegradable hydraulic oils.
In the company's 90-strong excavator fleet are 10 long-reach units (7t to 30t), which undertake work for the Environ-ment Agency (EA). The EA is insisting on eco-friendly hydraulic oil in excavators working on its sites.
Because of its involvement with the EA, Nationwide has been using bio oil in some of its machines for some time, but had not made the switch across the entire fleet.
While the move was an expense, Nationwide said it minimises the chance of topping up with incorrect oil and any machine can be sent out on an EA job as all are fully compliant.
