Yorkon offers PFI alternative
The healthcare sector can now take advantage of Yorkon's so-called
"faster and simpler alternative to PFI".
The design, build and finance package allows local health
authorities to fund the acquisition of new buildings, built off
site by Yorkon, by using an operating lease arrangement (normally
over 20 years).
Yorkon and its finance partner UniLink trialled the system in the
education sector last year on the £5m Our Lady of Lourdes
primary school in East Kilbride for South Lanarkshire Council.
Yorkon director and general manager Keith Blanshard said: "PFI can
be an effective solution where there is a shortage of capital
resources to fund larger schemes - £20m-plus. However, this
can also be a relatively expensive and complex route.
"Healthcare providers now have greater freedom to explore
alternative funding solutions. Well-constructed operating lease
arrangements are excellent value for money, offering a high degree
of flexibility and minimal risk."
