Wakefield stalls on £17.5m Yorks deal
Wakefield Council is facing further delays before it can get a
£17.5m highways deal on the road.
The West Yorkshire local authority's Hemsworth-A1 link road
originally surfaced more than a year ago but was subsequently hit
by landowners objecting to compulsory purchase orders.
A council spokesman said: "We have successfully negotiated with the
objectors and there won't be the need for a public inquiry."
But the council spokesman added: "We still haven't got the
government to stump up the funds and until then we can't send out
the tender documentation."
It is expected that Wakefield will ask five contractors to pitch
for the deal.
It is understood that the earliest the council expects to hear of
the government's decision is in six weeks' time.
The scheme includes 8km of single carriageway and two railway
bridges.
