Amec expands environmental services business

Amec has taken steps to grow its environmental services business with the acquistion of the business and selected assets of Shapiro & Associates, the US environmental consulting company.

The value of the net assets being acquired is £17,500.

The transaction, which gives Amec increased scale in the northwestern US, furthers it's strategy of expanding its environmental services business through in-fill acquisitions.

It also increases it's capabilities in environmental planning, impact assessment and biological services.

Shapiro & Associates specialises in environmental planning and regulatory compliance for government and industrial clients operating out of Seattle, Washington and Boise, Idaho.

The environmental services business forms part of the Engineering and Technical
Services business segment, Amec's largest area of activity, which, in 2004, had
total turnover of £2.3bn and generated 43% of total operating profit.
