New housing numbers in South East to be agreed by Seera

An agreement on the number of new houses to be built in the South East is expected to be made later today (Wednesday) following a meeting of the South East England Regional Assembly (Seera).

It is likely that Seera will suggest at the meeting in Winchester that the government builds an average of 28,900 new houses a year over the two decades.

The Thames Gateway and parts of Kent, Sussex, Surrey, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Hampshire will all be affected.

The Campaign for More and Better Homes has urged Seera to increase the number of new houses to be built to around 36,000.

Deputy prime minister John Prescott first unveiled plans for hundreds of thousands of new homes in the South East in 2003 to help address the lack of affordable housing in the region.
