Mansell wins £10.7m Royal Marsden contract

Mansell, the largest subsidiary in the Balfour Beatty Group, has been awarded a £10.7m contract to extend and upgrade the radiotherapy facilities at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Surrey.

The project involves the installation of four new linear accelerator machines to provide the Sutton hospital with additional capacity to treat patients.

Specially created bunkers will be developed to house each accelerator, encasing them in 2m thick, watertight concrete, and will be situated underground, some 14m beneath the existing staff car park.

Mansell will also be responsible for the refurbishment of an existing linear accelerator bunker at the hospital.

Works are due to commence in summer 2005, with the installation of the new linear accelerators to take place in December 2006 on a rolling eight-month programme.

The refurbishment of the existing linear accelerator bunker is programmed for completion in winter 2005.
