Fire regs consultation launched

Contractors could follow stricter fire safety regulations after a government consultation launched today.

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister is seeking opinion on the use of sprinklers as part of ammendments to the Building Regulations. The four-month consultation will focus on ammendments to Part B on fire safety.

The ODPM said today it wants to highlight the potential use of sprinklers and to give firefighters more help in dealing with fires in tall buildings.

The proposals will also cover door-closing devices and changes to current guidance on loft conversions.
