Wates secures Slough Schools PFI

The Wates-led QED consortium has beaten Kajima and HBG to win the £44m Slough Schools PFI scheme.

The £44m project consists of the design, build, finance and operation of three schools and community facilities including a 12-place residential facility for children with autism. The schools incorporated in this scheme are Arbour Vale School and Beechwood School, co-located on one site, and The William Penn Primary School.

The design of all the schools has been developed jointly by Wates, the schools and Slough Borough Council.

Both Beechwood and The William Penn will remain fully operational throughout the construction phase, which starts in February 2006. Completion of the three schools is scheduled for 2007. QED will manage the facilities until 2034.
