Carillion wins £13m Leven viaduct

Carillion has been awarded the £13m contract to carry out essential work on the Leven Viaduct for Network Rail.

The contract, to deliver the scheme, was finalised last week and Network Rail will directly manage all work. Work is due to start on the project at the beginning of April 2006 and will be carried out over 16 weeks.

The 49 spans that make up the viaduct deck will be removed and replaced after assessments showed the existing piers could be utilised. The new deck has been designed to comply with modern standards, and this work should ensure no major maintenance is required on the structure for the next 25 years

The project has also been designed to ensure a minimal impact on the environment and local wildlife, with as much work as possible being done away from the site.
