June new orders increase 16%


June was an excellent month for new construction orders as the total value increased 16% to £3.8bn, according to the latest data from the Department of Trade & Industry.

All sectors increased with the exception of other public, which was down 16% compared with the same month a year ago. Public housing was up 48%, private housing 42%, infrastructure 5%, private industrial 84% and private commercial 7%.

In the second quarter, the total orders value was £11.1bn, up 14% compared with Q2 2004. All sectors except public housing increased.

In the year to June, total orders were up 12% to £41bn. Public housing was up 8%, private housing 21%, infrastructure 12%, private industrial 23% and private commercial 10%. Other public slipped 1%.
