Hanson slip solution ready to hit the road
Hanson has launched a road surfacing material, which, it claims, will help to end local authority concerns about slip resistance.
A company spokesman told CJ that councils are shying away from using stoned mastic asphalt (SMA) after a BBC Radio 4 programme earlier this year blamed the material for causing a number of fatal road accidents.
Hanson has launched Tuffpave as an alternative to SMAs. The company has signed an exclusive agreement with BP Bitumen, which is supplying the binder for the product.
The spokesman said Tuffpave is based on another Hanson surfacing, Tuffgrip, and that the company will train outside contractors to lay it. He said the polymer modifier makes the product more flexible at low temperatures and less liquid at high temperatures.
Tuffpave has spreading rates 10% higher than SMAs, he said.
