Biwater Graham wins £37m wastewater works project

A £37m contract to design and build a North Coast wastewater treatment works in Northern Ireland has been won by Biwater Graham, provider of water and wastewater treatment services.

Awarded by Northern Ireland’s Department for Regional Development, Water Service, the new works will treat sewage from two seaside resorts, and from Castlerock, Articlave and Coleraine.

It is part of the planned £735m upgrade of the province's water and sewerage infrastructure through to 2008.

Treatment will include screening, grit removal, primary settlement, activated sludge secondary treatment and final settlement.

A further challenge is posed by the complex environmental impact plan, which is designed to safeguard the area's terrestrial and marine flora and fauna during and after the work.

Completion is programmed for the spring of 2007.
