Terrorist attacks delay London 2012 decisions

The procurement process for a number of large contracts connected with the delivery of the Olympic Park for the 2012 Games is to be delayed for at least a month as a result of the London bombings.

The London Development Agency (LDA) was due to send out invitations to tender by the end of this month for the following contracts:

* Consultancy design services for the Olympic Park and infrastructure (excluding venues).
* Programme manager for the site-wide development of the Olympic facilities.
* Demolition and remediation contractors.
* Designer for the Olympic Velopark.

The LDA was also expected to have appointed a contractor to lay the the underground power lines in the Olympic Park, having already submitted the planning application for removing existing overhead lines.

However, it is believed that the explosions in the capital in July meant that a scheduled monthly meeting had to be postponed and the approval processes delayed.

An LDA spokesman said the tenders for all of the contracts will go out in “the next few weeks”.

Meanwhile, CJ has learned that the appointment of a head of procurement on the London Organising Committee for the London 2012 Olympic Games (LOCOG) will not be made until at least the start of next year.
