Planning approval has been granted to transform the derelict goods yard next to Hastings station into a £72m mixed-use development.
The Station Plaza scheme is one of the biggest elements of the development programme being delivered by regeneration company Sea Space on behalf of the Hastings & Bexhill Task Force. Designed by Hopkins Architects, it is intended to create an impressive, vibrant gateway for Hastings, connecting the station that opened last October with the rest of the town, creating jobs and education opportunities.
Having secured planning approval, the next steps are for Sea Space to work with its partners on further preparations to get the project ready for construction in 2006. The Station Plaza scheme includes 102 apartments; 13,000m2 of education premises; a 3,000m2 primary healthcare centre; and 7,500m2 of office and retail premises. It will accommodate 900 employees and a large number of students as well as residents.
The project's design team is led by Scott Wilson as project manager and consulting engineer, with Hopkins as lead architect supported by Bill Dunster, Gardiner & Theobald as cost consultant, Chris Blandford Associates as landscape architect and Atkins as transport consultant.
