T Clarke profits rise slightly

T Clarke, the electrical contractor, has been battling with pressure on its margins during the first half of the year, says chief executive Pat Stanborough.

The group’s interim financial results, published this morning (Friday), suggest that Stanborough and his team won the fight, however, as pre-tax profit ran to £3.7m, slightly ahead of the figure of £3.5m in the comparable period last year.

Turnover (six months to 30 June 2005) jumped to £92m, a climb of £20m.

“We are now experiencing an upturn in the London commercial market,” said Russell Race, chairman, “in both new build and fit-out.”

T Clarke has won orders for three new-build projects on More London, at Tower Bridge, and as part of fit-outs for Allen & Overy in Bishopsgate and DrKW in Gresham Street, London.

Regional businesses have won work in the Grand Arcade shopping centre in Cambridge, in the town hall at Barry, and for 16 Waitrose supermarkets.
