Mowlem to build flood alleviation scheme

Mowlem Infrastructure has secured a £4m contract with the Environment Agency for a flood alleviation scheme in Lancaster.

The scheme along the River Lune involves the construction and landscaping of 3.2km of embankment and walled flood defences.

New earthwork embankments will incorporate a sheet pile core and will utilise locally won material excavated from a borrow pit, which will subsequently be landscaped and planted on completion.

Work will also include the raising of existing concrete walls and the construction of new sheet pile walls, which will be capped with artificial stone cladding and copings.

Work will begin at the end of August and the project is due for completion in November 2006.
