The City Council of Bristol is inviting contractors to bid for its Colston Hall redevelopment project - Phase 1, which is worth £17.5m.
The project is the first of a three-phase scheme to transform Colston Hall, which dates back to 1867, into a centre for excellence for all types of music for the broadest cross section of users.
The first phase will comprise the demolition of existing buildings and the construction of a new foyer and services building, including revenue generating spaces, such as box office, offices, retail outlet, two cafe/bars and a restaurant.
In addition, elements of the existing listed Victorian front of house building will be remodelled.
The remaining two phases will involve the remodelling and refurbishment of the main auditorium, the completion of remodelling works to the existing front of house building, including a second hall, and the provision of a new back of house building and other revenue generating accommodation.
Phase 2 and 3 are expected to cost £22m and £19m respectively, although no funding has been established yet for these later phases.
