Birse Civils has been awarded a £3.3m contract by Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council to construct a new bypass in South Yorkshire.
The new bypass in Dodworth will link directly Junction 37 of the M1 to the A628 Manchester Road, bypassing Dodworth to the north.
The first section links the M1 junction on a new dual carriageway crossing the Barnsley to Penistone Railway by means of an overbridge designed Birse Civils. From there the bypass becomes single carriageway to link with the existing Dodworth Business Park.
The scheme involves a variety of associated works including site clearance, demolition, deep drainage, earthworks, carriageway surfacing, safety fencing and diversion of utilities.
In addition to the new railway bridge, Birse Civils have designed an underpass and several storm water attenuation tanks as part of the project.
