Colas has been awarded the near £3m term maintenance lighting contract from Brighton & Hove City Council/East Sussex County Council.
Won in open tender based on price and quality, the contract is for the next four-and-a-half years, with a possible five year extension.
The new contract, involving capital replacement as well as general maintenance, will cover 70,000 lighting units throughout the area including 2,500 bollards, 8,000 signs and 700 subway fittings as well as street lighting columns.
Night patrols will tour the area to identify failed lighting units and the information will then be fed back to a central computer for work allocation.
