'Starter for ten' for RoSPA E-Videos

Screenshot of RoSPA E-VideosHealth and safety training, that 'opportunity' that faces many of us on a daily basis: it has to be completed, it has to be flexible and it has to be cost effective - simple, right? Unfortunately, no, it isn't simple and it is an issue that becomes ever more important as rules and regulations are updated and changed.

Health and safety training can be less of a problem for larger companies, as they often have people that can administer health and safety training, and also have employee numbers that make courses and videos cost effective. For the more 'average' company, however, cutting the budget cloth in the right way to get all of the people on the correct courses can be a time consuming and costly business.

These are just the type of issues that the new RoSPA E-Videos service is designed to overcome. No longer will companies be faced with the forced decision of whether to buy the video on 'ladders' or the one on 'mobile scaffolding', as only one fits into the budget. RoSPA E-Videos can help ensure that employee can watch the content that is relevant to their job, regardless of how many people will watch each particular video - and all for one known, clear price.

The system works very much like a 'lending library' for videos. Just purchase a number of 'tokens', and then any health and safety videos can be watched until your tokens are used up - meaning that each viewing effectively has the same price.

Except the E-Video system also has a number of important advantages over a lending library: you don't have to travel to visit in person; you won't find other people have borrowed what you want; and what you borrow is always in just as good condition as it was the first time it was borrowed.

And where the system really scores is that there is no need to make difficult decisions on the training and videos that need to be bought, you just buy a stack of tokens and use them up at your discretion - you're even be able to watch new videos as they arrive on the system.

From an employer's point of view it gets even better - they can see who has watched what, and how they performed in an online test. Proof of training and understanding is there in black and white.

The RoSPA E-Videos system contains a huge breadth of material. There is content ranging from how to drive a fork lift truck all the way through to dealing with fires in the work place, and more videos are being added on a regular basis. There is a wide range of topic areas, including construction, driver safety, industrial safety, safety awareness and risk assessment, covering many of the basic essentials that are now required learning.

The content is delivered directly to a PC via a broadband connection, and can be shown on the full screen just like a TV programme, although many people prefer to have a smaller video running alongside the transcript onscreen. Once the programme is finished and any key areas have been reviewed, simply click on the quiz button to take the online test. The content that has been watched and the score achieved in the test is automatically entered into a personal Health & Safety Log, which can only be accessed by the individual employee and their specified 'supervisor'.

RoSPA E-Videos allows health and safety training to be purchased in a flexible and cost effective way - all members of staff get to see the material that is aimed at their job, without their company facing limitations imposed by budget control and a diversity of disciplines.

So, maybe health and safety training is an opportunity just waiting to be grasped after all.
