Construction's fatality total reaches 38

The total number of construction fatalities has risen to 38 following the death of a worker after he fell from scaffolding at a site in Kendal, near the Lake District.

David Thompson, a 50-year-old man from the local area, was working at the site in Skelsmergh when he fell to his death on Tuesday afternoon.

Exactly how he fell has yet to be determined and both the Health & Safety Executive and local police are investigating the accident.

The contractor Thompson was working for has not yet been named.

The fatality follows the death of a 24-year-old man in Bristol on 7 September when a wall he was working on collapsed on top of him.
