Gordon Morrison returns

Gordon Morrison, who along with his brother Sir Fraser sold Morrison Construction to AWG in 2000, has returned to the construction industry with the purchase of social housing contractor Richardson.

The Beckenham-based firm has a turnover of £21m, and has operated in the social housing market for more than 20 years with a number a number of London boroughs and housing associations.

"As much as 80% of Richardson's work is repeat business with existing clients, which enforces its reputation for completions on time and within budget, " Morrison said. "I have been impressed with Richardson's approach and there is a strong team delivering a quality product."

He added: "I want to see Richardson move to the cutting edge of new thinking by finding innovative and creative solutions. Richardson has the potential to become a centre of excellence on the social housing front."

Morrison joined AWG when it bought his firm. He left in May 2001. Two years ago he formed a consortium with German banking giant WestLB to buy AWG; this bid was unsuccessful.
