Carillion confirmed as mystery bidder for Mowlem

Carillion has confirmed today (Thursday) that it was the construction firm that has made an approach to Mowlem. No indication towards the value of the bid has been given.

"Further to the announcement by Mowlem on 31 October 2005 that it had received an approach which may or may not lead to an offer, Carillion confirms that it was the party that made the approach," said Carillion in a company statement.

"While discussions are progressing, there can be no assurance that an offer will be forthcoming. A further announcement will be made as appropriate," added the group.

Laing O'Rourke has also been linked but has remained tight lipped on the matter.

Mowlem has declined to comment.
