Five ProCure 21 contractors are on the shortlist for the Welsh Health Estates (WHE) capital works partnering framework contract. The five are: HBG; Integrated Health Projects (Norwest Holst/Sir Robert McAlpine); Interserve; Kier; and Laing O’Rourke.
WHE is hoping to whittle the list down to three principal supply chain partners (PSCP) by April.
The framework deal is based on the NHS ProCure 21 model, but with a number of key differences. Unlike the troubled ProCure 21 framework, the WHE framework will be mandatory, requiring all 15 Welsh health trusts to participate.
WHE has also chosen to limit the number of framework members to just three.
The framework will cover all capital works projects above £5m and plans to deliver £170m of capital works a year.
It will run for four years with an option to extend the contract for a further two years. No firm will be allowed to work for more than one PSCP.
