Manchester waste PFI bidders revealed

The Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority has revealed the four bidders for its £300m waste PFI scheme.

It has received tenders from:

• Shanks Waste Management/Babcock & Brown.
• Sita UK.
• Viridor Waste Management/John Laing.
• Waste Recycling Group.

The shortlist should emerge in May with negotiations starting with the preferred bidder later this year. Contract award is scheduled for 2007.

The 25-year scheme involves the provision of new waste disposal facilities and services.
