The photovoltaic industry is in the dark over how much money the government will hand over to install solar cells.
A spokeswoman for M&E consultant Max Fordham said clients are waiting for news on grants, after the Department for Trade & Industry set aside £30m for its three-year Low Carbon Building Programme beginning later this year.
The sustainable energy fund will replace the Major Photovoltaic Development and Clear Skies programmes. She said: “We’re waiting for April to find out the new funding criteria and how much is available for photovoltaic.”
Meanwhile, suppliers claim energy prices are pushing the market for photovoltaic products.
A spokeswoman for photovoltaic products company Solarcentury said: “There is potential for there to be energy wars in the future. It’s a very unstable market, and people won’t be sure what their energy costs might be.
"We’re offering a security of supply. If you say you can secure a supply, that appeals to anyone. There’s a big market for renewables out there.”
