Extra funding gets worker safety reps out on the road

Government grants worth £176,144 have been awarded this year to fund roving worker safety representatives in the construction industry under schemes jointly promoted by union and employer organisations.

An award of £96,144 goes to a partnership between the Federation of Master Builders and the TGWU and UCATT. It funds three worker safety advisers in Scotland covering 70 small and medium-sized firms.

A further £80,000 grant is for three safety advisers working in Yorkshire, the North East, and the North West. Here the scheme is sponsored by the National Federation of Builders and the Construction Confederation in conjunction with UCATT. Again, it covers 70 smaller contractors.
