Demand for SIG's products in the UK was strong last year, as turnover in the UK increased 21.1% to £1bn. Underlying operating profit increased 32.2% to £84.4m.
SIG enjoyed growth in all product sectors in the UK: insulation, roofing, commercial interiors and safety. While demand for insulation products levelled off as expected in the second half, SIG has increased manufacturing capacity in readiness for a boost from the Part L changes.
In roofing, there was reduced consumer spending, but this was compensated for by an increase Decent Homes work.Commercial interiors benefited from government expenditure on the renovation and replacement of schools, hospitals and other public buildings. Other areas of non-residential construction were strong as well: hotels, retail, leisure and offices.
Overall, the group produced a 23.6% boost in pre-tax profit to £86.8m on turnover up 17.2% to £1.6bn.
