Government slammed for rushing green code

The government’s plans to introduce the Code for Sustainable Homes was today slammed by products manufacturers.

The Construction Products Association criticised the government for rushing through the consultation process on new green rules.

The association said: “If the government is serious, it will have to greatly improve the mechanism by which all stakeholder views are considered.

“A major disappointment for the Association is that the Government pre-empted the conclusions of the consultation exercise by announcing changes it intended to make to the draft Code, before all the responses had been considered.”

The association gave a cautious welcome to the Code, which will increase environmental standards in house building.

The government last week said energy efficiency ratings will be mandatory for new and existing homes. Wind turbines and solar panels will also gain extra points under the Code.
