Carillion's acquisition of Mowlem has led to the T4 consortium withdrawing from bidding for the New Tyne Crossing.
The T4 team included Mowlem, Edmund Nuttall and Vinci. A statement from New Tyne Crossing said: "T4 has withdrawn because of issues within the consortium arising from the change of ownership of one of its member companies."
Project director Paul Fenwick said: "While it is disappointing that T4 has withdrawn, there could be a positive impact on timescales. We now only need to evaluate two bids. If one bid is clearly superior to the other, then we may be able to appoint a concessionaire without going to the BAFO stage."
The two remaining bidders are: Connect North East (Balfour Beatty Capital Projects and Volker Stein Construction Europe); and Bouygues.
The deadline for tenders is 7 August.
